It All Starts With You

I’ve struggled with severe self-image issues. For the longest time, I could not stand to look at myself on any reflective surface.  I thought I was too fat, too different, too much and too little of everything really. I hated myself.

Like a lot of people, I often thought that if I worked at it hard enough, I could change myself, be more likeable. So, I tried every crash diet that ever trended, incorporated painful exercise regiments, even resorted to drastic measures to ‘manage’ my weight. This led me to developing unhealthy eating disorders, that drove me deeper into my mental hell.

See, like most of us, my problem wasn’t my weight, or image. The real issue was my mind.  There were moments when I lost the weight, and I did not feel any different so shedding the pounds was clearly not the solution. After years of fruitless diets and plans I finally understood that if your mind isn’t right, you will never be pleased with how you see yourself. Our mind, body and soul are all linked. When we are in a healthy mental state, our body and soul can be there too. Cliched, I know, but so true.

I want to encourage Readers who struggle with sever low self-esteem or weight loss regimes with little results, to make room for a wellness approach that transforms your mind, body, and soul collectively. This means understanding that although exercise and healthy eating are very important in fostering a healthy lifestyle, the real work to holistic health, starts with you, and changing your mindset.

A great starting point to acquiring the keys to holistic health is visiting Brandice Lardner’s Blog – Grace Filled Plate.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll share some of the tools that helped me conquer my mind, and maintain a positive self-image, while living a holistically healthy life.
